Curl Types
Some blessed soul figured out a way to make it a bit clearer for us to identify different curl types. Super important... as you will see they all have their own characteristics (and beauty). Curls usually have S or Z type patterns with variations in between.
Type 1- the absence of curl. Ranging from fine/fragile to course /thick
Type 2- wavy, not overly oily or dry.
Allows for different styling options.
Reflects shine well. Resilient and prone to frizz
2a)-fine and usually thin, relatively easy to straighten or curl using heating tools.
2b)-waves that tend to adhere to the shape of the head.
2c)- fairly course, frizzes easily.
Type 3- spiral curls. Prone to tangling, breakage, dryness and frizz.
Not as light reflective as type 1 and 2.
3a)- large loose shiny curls
3b)-medium size, ringlets to corkscrew curl
3c)-tighter corkscrew curls, more prone to frizz.
Type 4- shrinkage up to 70%!
-The appearance of course strong hair.
-Is the most fragile of all hair types.
-Wiry strands may have a zigzag pattern or none at all.
-Extremely dry texture requires constant protection and hydration.
4a)-tight coils form an S pattern when stretched.
4b)-less defined pattern. Looks more like a Z
4c)-usually has to be defined by either twisting or braiding.
So, what type of curl pattern do you have?
